Community Update - April 2025

Summary

Update

Cascade STEAM is now launched! We welcome you to join us as we “Develop and promote STEAM Education, Career Connected Learning, Digital Literacy, and Digital Equity for all people of all ages.”

Some programs, such as Community Groups, Community Projects, and Mentorship are available to participate in NOW, while others will begin in Summer or Fall quarter.

Join the Cascade STEAM Meetup Page to receive event announcements and to RSVP for events. Join the Cascade STEAM Community Hub (Discord) for online discussion.

Cascade STEAM Programs are: “Free. Open to everyone. All are welcome. Family Friendly. Bring your friends!”

Programs

Community Groups

Community Groups are launched! Community Groups organize communities of aspiring, current, and retired professionals focusing on a STEAM topic. Recurring community groups now include Bellingham Codes, Bellingham Linux Users Group, Citizen Science, Cyber, Data Engineering, and Engineering. See the Cascade STEAM Meetup Page for scheduled events.

Community Projects

Community Projects are launched! Community Projects organize shared learning experiences focusing on positive community impact, often collaborating with community partners. Join the Citizen Science Community Group as we continue our organizing in support of the Stormwater Management Project in collaboration with RE Sources to help protect Bellingham Bay.

Mentorship

Mentorship is launched! Mentorship connects students and professionals, junior and senior professionals, and/or peers for organized and supportive personal and professional improvement. Registration is now open to participate in the Summer Cohort. We are facilitating both traditional and peer mentorship relationships and welcome your participation for all folks 18 years of age and older.

Bellingham Linux Users Group - April 16th

Join the Bellingham Linux Users Group on April 16th from 5:30pm-7:00pm at the Bellingham Makerspace. Our topics this month are LinuxFest Northwest 2025 Preview and Git Workshop. Details and RSVP at Meetup. (In collaboration with LinuxFest Northwest.)

Cascade STEAM Citizen Science - April 17th

Join Cascade STEAM Citizen Science on April 17th from 5:30pm-7:30pm at RE Sources. We continue to focus on our RE Sources Stormwater Monitoring Community Project to help protect Bellingham Bay. Details and RSVP at Meetup. (In collaboration with RE Sources.)

Cascade STEAM Data Engineering - April 24th

Join Cascade STEAM Data Engineering on April 24th from 6:00pm-7:30pm at Bellingham Makerspace. Our topic this month is Data Lakes led by organizer Ian Hogan. Details and RSVP at Meetup. (In collaboration with Bellingham Tableau User Group.)

Cascade STEAM Spring Social - April 25th

Join us for the Cascade STEAM Spring Social on April 25th from 5pm-7pm at Stones Throw Brewery in Fairhaven. Details and RSVP at Meetup. (In collaboration with LinuxFest Northwest.)

LinuxFest Northwest - April 25th-27th

Cascade STEAM is excited to help organize the 25th Annual LinuxFest Northwest event on April 25th-27th hosted at Bellingham Technical College and venues around Bellingham! LinuxFest Northwest is an annual technology conference focused on the Linux operating system and open source hardware and software. Cascade STEAM Cyber - May 8th

Join Cascade STEAM Cyber on May 8th from 5:30pm-7:00pm at Bellingham Makerspace for our Startup Meeting. Anyone with an interest in cybersecurity is welcome and encouraged to attend! Details and RSVP at Meetup.

Are you interested to help build Cascade STEAM? Do have an idea that you’d like to share? We welcome all people of all ages to get involved and join our team of volunteer organizers. We’re developing programs, connecting with community organizations, and preparing infrastructure and outreach materials. Bring your ideas and passions with you and we’ll make them happen together!
