Wednesday, May 28, 2025 6:00pm-7:30pm
Western Washington University, Parks Hall, Room 228

Join the Cascade STEAM Data Engineering Community Group on May 28th from 6:00pm-7:30pm at WWU, Parks Hall, Room 228. Our topic this month is “WWU Student Projects” led by Professor Christopher Califf and students of the MIS and MSCM majors, including the topics “Data Goes to the Movies: Getting Started with Tableau Using Movie Data” and “Warming Up to Tableau: Visualizing Climate Change”.

Additional Speaker and Topic Details:

Title: Data Goes to the Movies: Getting Started with Tableau Using Movie Data Presenters: Jade Phan (MSCM major) and Selena Escobar (MIS major) Summary: Data Goes to the Movies is a beginner-friendly Tableau presentation where we share how we got started, found our data, built visualizations, and what we learned along the way. Using movie data, we explored trends in box office performance and ratings while learning the fundamentals of Tableau.

Title: Warming Up to Tableau: Visualizing Climate Change Presenters: Manu Greenlee (MIS major), Arsiney Marshak (MIS major), William Bourgault (MSCM major) Summary: Warming Up to Tableau is a beginner-level Tableau presentation where we share how we got started, found our climate change dataset, built visualizations, and what we learned along the way. Using climate-related data, we explored trends in global temperature change, carbon emissions, and environmental impact while learning the fundamentals of Tableau.
