Cascade STEAM Cyber
Welcome to Cascade STEAM’s Cyber-focused community group! We are just getting started as a community group and we’d love to have you join us at an upcoming meeting. Meetings are free and all are welcome. Anyone with an interest in cybersecurity is welcome and encouraged to attend. Please help us by spreading the word to friends and colleagues.
Meetings
We meet on the second Thursday of the Month from ~5:30-7:00pm at various locations. Meeting details will be available on this page, the Cascade STEAM Community Hub, and the Cascade STEAM Meetup Page. We will not hold meetings in August or December; join us for Cascade STEAM Socials on these months instead!
We’ve got speakers lined up for the remainder of 2025! (We do not meet in December.)
Join us as we continue to work on organizing our group and building a local cybersecurity community. Our meetings are free and anyone with an interest in Cybersecurity is welcome to attend.

Topic: Cybersecurity in Financial Services
Ever wonder what a cyber career might be like in the financial services sector? Donavon Swinney is the Director of Information Security at WECU and has spent his career in the financial services sector. We’ll hear about Donavon’s career journey, learn about the cybersecurity program at WECU, and will be able to ask Donavon about AI usage in the Financial Services Industry.

Ever dream of a career as an executive in Big Tech or at a Tech Startup? Brent Hurtig is the Managing Partner and founder of Motive Search, a firm specializing in top-tier executive-level placements, for roles such as Chief Technology Officer, Chief Information Security Officer, Head of UI/UX, Chief Data Scientist, and more. We’ll gain insights about the recruitment process and what it’s like to participate in these types of recruitments. We plan on allocating time for questions from the audience, so bring your questions!

Featured Speaker: Mike Hamilton, Field CISO, Lumifi, and Co-Founder & Board Chairman, PISCES (Workforce training for entry-level cyber analysts; WWU is the lead university for PISCES and curator of curriculum)
Topics: Mike’s career story, impact of reduced federal resources at CISA (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency), how PISCES fits in to reduced CISA resources. Mike will also share some cyber trends with us and we’ve requested a good story or two.
In a career spanning nearly 30 years, Michael has served as a Cybersecurity Policy Advisor for Washington State; Vice-Chair of the State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial Government Coordinating Council; Founder and President of Critical Insight; Chief Information Security Officer for the City of Seattle; and Managing Consultant for VeriSign Global Security Consulting.
